Welcome to my new blog and my very first post! OK, I admit I’m a little nervous, but excited too.

Enough about me, let’s talk about this blog and why it’s here. Miracle Survivors is not just for survivors; but anyone who has been touched by cancer. Considering there’s more than 11.1 million cancer survivors living in the US and counting family and friends … well, we’re talking about just about everyone!

Even if cancer is not on your radar screen, this blog is meant to provide something we all need these days: inspiration. I certainly needed it in Feb. ‘08 when I had a recurrence of breast cancer that spread to other parts of my body. Not good news! Luckily, I knew a couple of people who had similar diagnoses and were doing really well. That developed into finding other “miracle survivors” from around the country and compiling them into a book I’m calling From Incurable to Incredible: Cancer Survivors Who Beat the Odds. Right now I’m seeking an agent so I can get this baby published!

This blog will share parts of these stories from the book and offer information on keeping healthy in mind, body and spirit and promising developments on the cancer front that come my way. I’m hoping to have some guest blog posts from experts and podcasts with miracle survivors. Most of all, I’m hoping to find other “miracle survivors” for my book and/or to share with others on this blog. So if you are out there or know someone else, please let me know!

I want this to be interactive, so please feel free to comment and share your own experiences. As Doug Ulman, president and CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation says, ”When people ask about advocacy and volunteering, I tell them, ‘If all you do is share your story, you are doing a lot. It is such a powerful testimony.’ Sharing your experience is almost always therapeutic for you, and its benefits are long-lasting and far-ranging.”

I look forward to sharing stories and hearing from you!

Yea Tami! You’ve come a long way in a very short time. Thanks for working on our behalf to spread the word that we can make it through. I continue to pray that my story as well as the others in your book will reach out to others to encourage them just as I pray for my ministry which has such a similar purpose.

    Tami,

I am so proud of what you’ve accomplished. I have followed your Keep the Positive Energy Flowing blog since you started it and found great solace and comfort in reading your posts, as well as inspiration and motivation.

You offer great insight and personal example how one can face seemingly insurmountable challenges, face down one’s fears, and plot a coarse of action that contributes to one’s healing process as much as does the most advanced medical treatments.

The synergistic approach you promote of maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit is spot on and I believe must be an integral part of the success achieved by many of the “miracle survivors” you interviewed for your book. I can’t wait to read it!

    Keep up the great work!

Tami- Thanks for sharing your experience and providing inspiration through sharing the achievements of others.

A friend of mine recently published his first book – very different genre, but he’s a journalist, and may be able to give you some recommendations on agents. I’ve put a note out to him, and will pass along his suggestions.
