Crazy, Sexy Cancer

Last night my husband, daughter and I watched the documentary, Crazy, Sexy Cancer by fabulous survivor Kris Carr. I read her book last year and was inspired by her wit, perseverance and spirit. In 2003, Kris was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, which manifested about 23 spots on her liver. Today her cancer is stable and she is healthy, happy and well.

I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated by her regimented diet, thinking it was way too much for me. I’ve done a lot to change to my diet, but as my husband said increduoulsy, Kris  puts me to shame.

But watching her moving documentary, I witnessed her struggles, humor, compassion and light. I realized, that like me and the miracle survivors I’ve interviewed over the year, she was determined to do whatever it takes to live a long, healthy and happy life. Her diet, yoga, spiritual seeking and connection to others were all ways to give her a sense of empowerment and discovery.

As Kris said in a recent article on www.womenshealth.gov, “I feel spectacular! I have more energy and clarity than I did before I was diagnosed. Aside from going vegan and eating mostly raw foods, I quit my job, moved, dove into a yoga/spiritual practice, and basically started living my life to the fullest. It’s amazing how many areas of my body and soul began to heal.”

OK, so I’m no Kris Carr, but I’m happy to report that Karen Massey, wife of Miracle Survivor Dave Massey (check out his story at http://www.tamiboehmer.com/2009/10/how-can-being-positive-be-a-bad-thing/) is doing some wellness coaching with me. Karen tells me that my diet is healthier than any of her clients starting out. I’m going to kick it up a notch, though, because I want to do everything I can to contribute to my health. I’ll share how it goes in subsequent posts.

One thing I’m doing is getting a new juicer. I might even start doing yoga. I feel inspired after watching Kris!
