Five quick tips from Annie Appleseed

Give me five!
We’re all busy with the holidays coming up, so I’ll make this quick. Yesterday I featured Ann Fonfa, founder of the Annie Appleseed Project. She had some great basic tips for people like you and me who are living with cancer.
”I tell people the healthier they are going into treatment, the better off they’ll be,” she says. “That’s one of the big-time philosophies of our organization – you have to be your personal best even though you have cancer.”
The Annie Appleseed Project promotes a five-part plan:
- Eat fruits and vegetables. Don’t eat junk food or consume soda or sugar.
- Exercise. Do something physical every day. Yon’t don’t have to be a world-class athlete, but keep moving. Walking, bike riding and swimming are good choices.
- Relax. This could be doing yoga, meditation, sitting in your garden, holding a baby … anything that promotes relaxation.
- Detox your body and your surroundings. Avoid parabens and other chemicals in personal care products and choose natural cleaning products.
- Take supplements. Educate yourself on the supplements and how they can help build your immunity during treatments and beyond. Many people are Vitamin D-deficient, for instance, which has been associated with breast cancer.
These are the basics I follow. I’ll share in more detail after going to the conference, Jan. 7-9!

Great advice; it is as true for all of us, cancer survivors or not. thanks

I’ve found that to be absolutely true. On days that I don’t move I can hardly move by the end of the day. If I make myself more, doing anything my entire body feels better.
