Blinded me with science …

Huh?

Huh?

Day one of the conference and I feel like I’ve been thrown into an honors biology class by mistake and am totally lost. There is so much information and many of the presenters seem to pack everything into a short time with lots of scientific lingo. I just assume that everyone here knows a lot more than I do and realize why English was my best subject.

I’m glad that they are offering video of the talks on the Annie Appleseed web site because I need time to digest and go over things. There was a good presentation this morning about environmental factors relating to cancer and how to protect yourself with nutrition and other lifestyle changes by Susan Luck from the EarthRose Institute.  She cited a study that showed that 90 percent of breast cancers have environmental factors and 40 percent of all cancers are avoidable with change of lifestyle.

Some recommendations to detox your body:

  1. probiotics: decreases gut inflammation - 70 percent of immune system is in our gut.
  2. lignans: flaxseed, etc. One study showed that flax seed and Tamoxifen decreased breast cancer growth.
  3. Milk thistle
  4. Calcium D gluconate: found in cruciferous vegetables, citrus fruits
  5. 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D,  safe up to 50 to 100K IUs
  6. Curcumin, works on cancer stem cells

Other presentations included a talk about the benefits of fermented soy and a survivor/caregiver panel. One woman with Stage IV cancer had an amazing story.

I get a feeling there is a strong distrust among many people here of the medical system and many have turned down chemo and other conventional treatments. Yet there are those like me who use both traditional and complimentary. I’ve met some very neat people here, such as Johnny Immerman, a young testicular cancer survivor who is founder of Immerman’s Angels. His organization matches survivors with others who serve as mentors. I was struck by his warmth and caring persona.

Ashley and I took a break to go to the beach since it’s supposed to get cold and rainy tomorrow. It was a  beautiful day with 70 degree weather. I took a long, brisk walk back to the shuttle stop. I really needed it! We just got back from window shopping and dinner.

It’s bedtime; talk to you later!

The workshops you describe sound interesting and I’m glad you can be at this conference. The detox suggestions are similar to what I have heard from my energy worker about general detoxing from metals and chemicals.
And isn’t’ it great you got to walk in the sun? Well done! Conferences can become mind numbing after a while.
    See you next week

VERY glad you added the cavat about the combo of traditional and non traditional treatment. As good as all the nutritional info appears, if curing cancer was as simple as eating broccoli there would be no cancers. While the medical profession has been slow to embrace complimentary practices the good cancer treatment centers are starting to get onboard. All info is good so thank you for bringing this to us but the bottom line is trust your doctor, trust yourself but more importantly, trust God.
