Celebrating Miracle Survivors’ one year “birthday”

Miracle Survivor turned one this weekend!

Miracle Survivor turned one this weekend!

One year ago on September 11, I tentatively wrote my first blog post and gave birth to the Miracle Survivors site.  From Incurable to Incredible was not yet finished, and I wanted a place to start sharing its stories and offer hope and inspiration. I brainstormed with my web developer, got all my ducks in a row, and hoped people would come visit.

Since then, we’ve had more than 13,500 visits from almost 7,500 unique visitors in every state of the US and 94 countries worldwide. Most of you come from the US (Ohio, where I’m from, being tops), but we’ve had a nice following from Canada, the UK,  India, Australia…and yes, even Romania (thanks to a loyal visitor).

The most popular pages on the site are this one – the blog- and About the Book. There also were some popular posts, such as the one about Miracle Survivor Mary Jacobson, the world’s Strongest Woman in her age category. As you might recall, Mary was shopping for a casket and preparing to die more than 15 years ago. Today she is cancer-free, buff and pulling trains, planes and automobiles for charity.

Another popular post was about Cathy Wolfe, who beat the unbeatable odds of being diagnosed with aggressively growing ovarian cancer while pregnant with her son Johnathon. I just talked with Cathy today, and she and 12-year-old Johnathon are doing well.

As for me, my life has changed quite a bit since that day. I can now add author and speaker to my title, and have been blessed by speaking engagements and media appearances. This is a miracle in itself considering how scared I used to be to be in front of a camera or addressing an audience. I’m even scheming on how I can get on Oprah’s last season. Anyone out there have connections?

Most of all, I’m feeling more hopeful than ever that I will become one of the Miracle Survivors I write about. This whole endeavor has made my life richer and healthier in so many ways.

Thanks to each and every one of you who have followed Miracle Survivors or are stopping by for the first time.  I feel such a strong connection with all of you and hope you will help me celebrate my two-year birthday next year!

Congratulations to you Tammy for all you have accomplished this year! When I think of you, I do not just think of you of an author, speaker, blogger or friend…I think of you as one of the most courageous, strong, empathetic, fighters I have ever had the privileged chance to meet.
I often reflect, especially now, after sharing my story with the world through your book. There were many days I would hide from the world. There was over a year of denial after being re-diagnosed where I didn’t share it with family, friends and would not return to the doctor. I was so very scared. I was in full-fledged DENIAL!
You have continued your fight everyday. Even during the rough days, and I know there are some, you still share your feelings as you are experiencing them. I couldn’t have done that. I can’t tell you how proud of you I am for sharing, not only the good days, but the not so good ones. It is a sign of the utmost inner strength a person can have. I commend you for all you are and the work you have done.
You should be so very proud!

Johnny and I are very humbled to have been asked to share our story.

Bless you throughout your continued journey ….
